The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo | Taylor Jenkins Reid
Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Evelyn Hugo is headed for fame and cannot be stopped!
It's 1953, Evelyn is growing up in Hell's Kitchen, NYC, wanting one thing from life - fame. At only 14 years old, she knocks on the door of the man who is said to be headed to L.A. and gets exactly what she wants. Her own ticket to Hollywood. If there is one thing she knows how to do, and learns how to do well, it is using men to get what she wants. They tie the knot and head west.
We meet producer Harry Cameron, who sees her potential and (after a bit of convincing) gives her a shot as a lead role in a film. A career that started as a struggle to prove her worth and earn her keep turns into the grand and lavish life of a bombshell in Hollywood. Then she gets her dream role in Little Women alongside the slightly younger, but highly anticipated actress, Celia St. James. During multiple marriages and subsequent divorces, Evelyn finds true friendship and love, even if there are some missteps along the way.
Now it's 2017, and magazine writer Monique Grant is wondering why she, of all people, is being asked by THE Evelyn Hugo to document her life story. She is given the chance of a lifetime to tell Evelyn's whole truth to the world.
We both read this as one of our book club picks! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️ 5 stars. TJR does it again. A flawlessly entertaining read that will make you love, hate, question, and envy the dynamic characters, especially Evelyn. Even though we are shown her life as divided into parts about her husbands, we find who she truly is as her own unashamed self shines despite these men. Highly recommend picking up a copy! Our favorite TJR so far.
P.S. Happy to see a lot more diversity in this novel than Malibu Rising!
