Uncanny Valley | Anna Wiener

The personal account of a twenty-something female pursuing a career in a (mostly trust-funded) male dominated world of tech. She leaves the publishing world of NYC to join a startup in San Fran during the beginning stages of big tech and app building.

Anna finds herself being older than the CEOs, CFOs, CTOs, and whatever other C_Os they decided to create. Although very hard-working and intelligent, she quickly figures out that the hoodie wearing CEOs are looking for big ambiguous ideas and "unicorn" plans. We embark on Anna's struggle to fit in and find success. All of this while battling skepticism regarding sexism and the lack of diversity in an industry run primarily by young white males.

A Chelsea Pick! While I'm sure it also reads very well, I personally listened to the audiobook. Highly recommend. Wiener's use of "the social network everyone hated" and other references to Silicon Valley conglomerates gave me a chuckle. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars
